Personal Injury Caused By A Zoo Animal

Our Client was enjoying a family day out at Twycross Zoo and was standing in the designated viewing area of the giraffe enclosure. On this occasion, a giraffe came towards her and poked its neck through a fence to eat some leaves on the other side. As he finished eating, the giraffe lifted his head and neck sharply and struck her in the face. The paramedics were called and she was taken to hospital where she was found to have suffered from a fractured eye socket.

We brought a Claim against the zoo for their failure to ensure that our Client remained safe while on her visit. The zoo’s insurers settled the Claim prior to court proceedings.

In building a viewing area as they did, the zoo owners had not properly assessed the risk to members of the public by failing to take account of the length of the giraffe’s neck. I am pleased to report that our Client made a full recovery from her injuries and no injury was caused to the giraffe”.
