Criminal Injuries Claims Specialist
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme has various requirements you must meet or your application is likely to be refused. The main requirements are:-
- The incident must have been reported to the police as soon as possible;
- An application must be made to the CICA within 2 years of the incident (although exceptions apply in some cases including cases of sexual abuse);
- The injuries must have been sustained as a result of a crime of violence;
- The injuries suffered (whether physical or psychological) are covered by the CICA tariffs
Criminal Injury Claims
An individual who has suffered an injury as a result of a criminal act may be entitled to compensation by making a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme – a CICA application.
There are many circumstances that such injuries can be sustained; whether this is arising from a physical assault by someone known to the individual or not, sexual assault whether an isolated event or sustained sexual abuse over time or an incident that has resulted in a psychological reaction, such as someone who has witnessed a violent crime or was a bystander to it.
If you are the blameless victim of crime resulting in either a physical or psychological injury, you may be entitled to compensation.
Here at Tinsdills, we have dealt with a wide range of CICA applications and have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the CICA Scheme.

Case Study
What Happened?
Our client was withdrawing money from a cash machine when an unknown assailant used a weapon to threaten our client and hijack our client’s vehicle. After some time, our client managed to escape from the frightening ordeal. Fortunately, they were not physically injured; however they were left psychologically traumatised by the attack.
The assailant was later identified by the police and criminal proceedings brought against them. They received a custodial sentence.
How We Helped & Outcome
When an individual is a victim of crime, they may be entitled to compensation. We successfully submitted an application on behalf of our client to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) who awarded our client £10,125 for the psychological injuries they suffered in this traumatic event.
